Our Approach

Through extensive engagement with the City of Winchester Trust, Winchester Action on Climate Change (WinACC), local residents, interest groups and design professionals, Cala’s team reduced opposition and gained planning permission.

The development has been planned to serve the wider community through high quality placemaking, including new homes, community, social, education, care and retail facilities, with strong emphasis on public realm, permeability and open spaces.

There is a strong emphasis on Design Coding to ensure the consistent high-quality design of development, public realm and infrastructure.

A wide range of housing mix, typologies, tenures and pricing points means that the overall development functions as an inclusive part of the wider Winchester community.

Contributing to your community

Cala Homes (Southern) has helped fund and deliver a new multi-use games area as part of its Section 106 contributions at the Kings Barton development in Winchester, representing a £222,000 investment into the local community.

As part of its Community Pledge initiative, which includes a range of tailored measures to support local needs in Winchester, such as donations, volunteering and learning programmes, Cala has donated £750 to Winchester Hospice to provide three months of complimentary therapies for patients and their loved ones.

The team at Cala has also supported the Winchester Roundtable for eight years, having sponsored the Santa Sleigh since 2018 and began supporting the Fireworks event in 2022.

In addition, the team has decorated its showhomes at Kings Barton at Monarchs Mead and Kings Barton at The Green with products from 20 local businesses through Cala’s Showhome of Support initiative. This initiative offers local artisans and businesses the opportunity to showcase their products to a wider audience in a real-life setting.
